Sharjah is moving forward with a new phase of road infrastructure development, following the announcement by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, during “Direct Line.”
Under the slogan "دربك سالك translated to Darbak Salek," the newly announced projects in Sharjah aim to improve traffic flow, strengthen road links between Sharjah and Dubai, and create smoother access to key destinations across the emirate.
The wider development programme is valued at Dh750 million and includes the Al Taawun Tunnel, Noor Road, new bridges, better connections to major highways, and improved access to Expo Centre Sharjah.
For daily commuters, these projects are more than road upgrades. They are part of a long-term plan to ease congestion on one of the busiest corridors between Sharjah and Dubai.
A New Chapter for Sharjah’s Road Network
Sharjah’s continuous growth has increased pressure on several major routes, especially around Al Taawun Street, Al Nahda Bridge, Al Orooba Street, and the main roads connecting the emirate with Dubai.
The newly announced projects are designed to improve traffic movement through smarter road planning, underground tunnels, bridge connections, road diversions, and improved links to Emirates Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.
Projects of this scale require deep technical expertise, careful traffic management, and strong execution across several construction phases, from excavation and utility protection to bridge works, road paving, and final finishing.
As part of Sharjah’s construction landscape, Al Marwan Group continues to support the emirate’s infrastructure growth through the combined strength of Al Marwan Construct and Al Marwan Machinery.
Al Taawun Tunnel: Reducing Pressure on a Key Traffic Point
The Al Taawun Tunnel is one of the main elements of the new road programme. It is planned to create a direct underground link towards Dubai through Al Nahda Bridge, helping reduce pressure on Al Taawun Roundabout and improve traffic flow between the two emirates.
Construction works have already started, with traffic diversions introduced from June 13, 2026. The project requires coordinated work across excavation, shoring, concrete works, road reinstatement, paving, and site safety.
This type of urban infrastructure demands precise planning, especially when construction is carried out around active roads and busy residential and commercial areas.
Noor Road: A New Route Towards Dubai
Noor Road is another key project announced as part of Sharjah’s new road development programme. The route is planned to extend from Al Orooba Street towards Dubai through Al Nahda Bridge, adding another connection between the two emirates.
The road is expected to include a suspended bridge passing by six new mosques and is scheduled to open by the end of 2026.
Once completed, Noor Road will help distribute traffic more efficiently and reduce pressure on existing routes. It will also improve access between residential, commercial, and industrial areas, supporting smoother daily movement across the city.
Better Access to Main Roads and Expo Centre Sharjah
The new projects will also support stronger links to Emirates Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, giving motorists easier access to major UAE corridors.
Improved access to Expo Centre Sharjah is another important part of the plan. Clear directional routes and better parking access will help visitors reach the venue more smoothly, especially during major exhibitions and public events.
For a destination that welcomes large numbers of visitors throughout the year, better road connectivity plays a direct role in improving the overall experience.
Al Khan Lagoon Island: Infrastructure Meets Waterfront Development
In addition to road and bridge projects, HH Sheikh Dr Sultan also revealed plans for Al Khan Lagoon Island, a new waterfront destination featuring restaurants, retail shops, and a theatre.
Access to the island will be through an underwater tunnel leading to a major car parking facility in Sharjah city.
This project adds a new dimension to Sharjah’s development vision. It combines transport infrastructure with leisure, tourism, and waterfront planning, creating a destination that supports both mobility and quality of life.
Al Marwan Group’s Long-Term Role in Sharjah’s Growth
Al Marwan Group has been closely connected to Sharjah’s development for decades. Through its construction, machinery, real estate, hospitality, and industrial divisions, the Group continues to contribute to projects that shape the emirate’s built environment.
Al Marwan Construct has delivered and supported major roads, bridges, underpasses, drainage networks, marine works, and infrastructure projects across Sharjah and the UAE. Al Marwan Machinery adds further strength through a large fleet of heavy equipment that supports demanding construction operations.
Previous contributions include major road and bridge works such as the King Abdulaziz Road upgrade, Al Layyah Canal and Bridges, Al Wahda Bridge, Sharjah to Khorfakkan Road, and recent stormwater and groundwater infrastructure works.
These projects reflect Al Marwan Group’s long-standing commitment to building infrastructure that supports daily life, improves mobility, and strengthens Sharjah’s future growth.
Supporting the Vision of “Darbak Salek”
Sharjah’s new road projects reflect a practical vision: making movement easier, safer, and more efficient for everyone who lives, works, and travels through the emirate.
From tunnels and bridges to road networks and waterfront destinations, each project is part of a larger effort to improve connectivity and support long-term urban development.
For Al Marwan Group, contributing to this progress is part of a wider mission: building the infrastructure, destinations, and services that help Sharjah continue moving forward.
